![]() Summertime... and the living is definitely easier! But... like all good things, it's coming to an end. The days are noticeably shorter and the evenings cooler. It's winding down but let's keep the grill going for a few more weeks, break out the light white wines and chill the reds. Check this link for Labor Day Grilling.
Our wines of the season complement light, easy-to-prepare summer foods. Salads (mustard-y potato or curry chicken), grilled vegetables, seafood, cold roast chicken and one of our all-time favorites... grilled flank steak (click here for a no-fail recipe).
Here's a good article from the Sacramento Bee... The Good Life: In Italy, food-wine pairing comes naturally. Explains how food and wine pairing is really derived from what grows in a geographical area. The first "Locavores"?
Featured white wines are Vouvray, Sancerre, Frascati, Orvieto, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. Dry Creek makes an especially nice Dry Chenin Blanc. Summer reds include Cote du Rhone, Zinfandel, Beaujolais and Pinot Noir; all with a slight chill. It sounds slightly sacreligious, but Ruffino Chianti (available widely in a 1.5 magnum) is a great lightly chilled summer red for casual outdoor dining.
